Topics for Upcoming Family Discussion Group


Each week from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the NAMI Conference Room on the second floor of the Mental Wellness Center, 617 Garden St. Santa Barbara, NAMI Family to Family facilitators will lead discussions on various topics of interest to families who struggle with issues related to a family member’s mental health disorder.  Each week a different topic is discussed using informational handouts as a discussion guide.  These sessions are free, open to the public and don’t require advanced registration.

July 2 - What to do when Mental Illness and Substance Abuse Co-occur
July 9 - How to Help Ill Relative Overcome Isolation

July 23 - How to Recognize Signs of Relapse and Help Ill Relative Head it Off
July 30 - How to Deal with the lack of Insight (Anosognosia) in Ill Relative

August 7 - Understand Public and Private Mental Health Systems in Santa Barbara County
August 14 - Understand How “Well” Siblings of an Ill Person are Impacted and What Parents Can Do
August 21 - Set Limits on Behavior of a Relative Living With a Mental Health Disorder
August 28 - Plan for and Discuss End of Life Issues with Your “Ill” and “Well” Family Members
